The guest of honor at this year’s Friedrich Merz Foundation Visiting Professorship is heart specialist Joseph C. Wu, Professor at Stanford University, USA, and President of the “American Heart Association”.

The Merz Professorship facilitated Lab-visits, Students Lectures, the Award Symposium on “Cardiovascular Repair and Regeneration”, and the Citizen Lecture with Professor Wu and other leading cardiac researchers.

The panel discussion on new developments in cardiovascular medicine focused, among other things, on how stem cells can be used to improve diagnostics and develop targeted, new therapies for heart disease. It also addressed the current status of regenerative therapies and recently developed new drug treatments.
